3 Curious Collections of Photographs

There’s something almost soothing about collections of photographs that allow us to explore an everyday subject in a new way. Here are three photographers that let us see things in new ways.

First is this collection of photographs from inside musical instruments, taken by photographer and musician Charles Brooks. They make me think of what it would be like to be a minature person in a world of giant musical instruments, as though you’re able to walk through the interior architecture of a violin or a piano.

Photographs with a similar feel, but that tackle a completely different subject matter, are these photos of Toronto’s underground rivers and sewer tunnels by Michael Cook. Hidden below Toronto’s streets, some of these massive tunnels date to the 1800s and are lined with brick.

From the large to the small, photographer Uli Westphal is best known for his precise arrangements of different cultivars of fruits and vegetables. His most recent work focuses on the diversity of seeds produced by edible plants. Through Uli’s lens, the immense variety of inconspicuous seeds is revealed.
