I will always be amused and slightly horrified by the story of how hippos were nearly introduced to the US as farm animals. They’re only the most dangerous animal in the world. What could go wrong?

The critically endangered ghost orchid (Dendrophylax lindenii) has flowered outside of Florida for the first time, as a specimen has flowered at Kew Gardens.
